Whitney Elizabeth Houston

Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American recording artist, actress, producer, and model. In 2009, the Guinness World Recordscited her as the most-awarded female act of all time with a total of 415 career awards in her lifetime. Houston was also one of the world’s best-selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide.  Houston’s also acted in some movies which received commercial success. On February 11, 2012, Houston was found dead in her guest room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California, of causes not immediately known. She is known as the artist with unparalleled voice quality in American music industry.

1963–1976: Early life

Parents

Whitney Houston was born in a middle-income neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey, the third and youngest child of Army serviceman and entertainment executive John Russell Houston, Jr. and gospel singer Cissy Houston. She was taught music by her mother.

 In D-1, Sat the LL and Ven the 4 L are connected. Ven is the 4 Lord and 9 Lord and is aspected by Jup and Moon showing an artistic mother and father. The karak for parents Sun and Moon respectively are also in Nakshatra of Mercury and are conjunct with benefics and receive the aspect of Jupiter. At the age of 11, Houston began to follow in her mother’s footsteps and started performing as a soloist in the junior gospel choir at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, where she also learned to play the piano.  While Houston was still in school, her mother continued to teach her how to sing. The dasha running was Ketu – Mars. Ketu is placed in 11 House of recognition and its dispositer Jup is well placed in 2 House. Mars is the 10 Lord connected to 11 House so at an early age she got the opportunity to show her talent.

Rao Sir has told us that Jupiter and Sun association is a combination for temples or associated with philanthropic activities or religious activities. 1977–1984: Early career

Houston spent some of her teenage years touring nightclubs where her mother was performing, and she would occasionally get on stage and perform with her. In 1977, at age 14 – 15 she became a backup singer. The dasha running was Ketu; In D-12 Ketu is placed in the 3^rd House and is associated with Lagna. In D-1, Ketu is placed in the 11 House and gave her recognition. 

Her Venus dasha started in 1978 and there was no looking back for her. Her mother wanted her to complete High school but several opportunities came knocking and she abandoned studies. In the early 1980s, Houston started working as a fashion model. While modeling, she continued her recording career by working with producers of music record companies.

Her debut album was released in 1985. Dasharunning was Ven-Mar-Sat. We have seen Venus and Mars and Saturn is the LL of the horoscope promising good results.

1985–1986: Rise to International Prominence

By 1986, her debut album- Whitney Houston topped the Billboard 200 albums chart.  Houston was No. 1 artist of the year and won over 25 awards that year due to her music. Dasha running was Venus- Rahu.  Rahu is Raj yog karak being placed in 5 House. Its dispositer Mer is a Trikona lords placed in Kendra. Rahu is also vargottam in D-9.

Houston then embarked on her first world tour. The album became an international success, and was certified 13× platinum (diamond) in the United States alone, and has sold a total of 25 million copies worldwide. Venus dasha promises international fame. Rahu is in 12 House from MD Lord Venus and is making a raj Yog in 12^th House. This gave her success abroad.

1987–1991 International Success

Houston’s second album, Whitney, was released in June 1987. The album enjoyed commercial success. Houston songs were No. 1 in US and UK, while also hitting number one or top ten in dozens of other countries around the world. Dasha running was Ven- Rah- Ketu. We have seen Ven and Rahu. Ketu is placed in 11 House of gains and recognition and its dispositer Jup is placed in 2 H. The period was very lucky for her and she got tremendous name and fame during this period.  Following the release of the album, Houston embarked on the  World Tour, which was one of the ten highest grossing concert tours of 1987. The dasha took her abroad and gave her tremendous success.

Charity

In 1989, Houston formed The Whitney Houston Foundation for Children, a non-profit organization that has raised funds for the needs of children around the world. The dasha running was Ven-Jup- Sat. Venus the 9 Lord made her do good deeds. Jup the 2 Lord aspected by Sat gave her the money to spend on good deeds and also gave her recognition for charity. Her Moon is conjunct with Jup and is aspected by Mars and Sat.

During 1991, with America entangled in the Persian Gulf War, Houston did free concerts and proceeds went to the American Red Cross Gulf Crisis Fund. As a result, the singer was named to the Red Cross Board of Governors. The dasha running was Venus- Jupiter and Venus- Saturn. It gave her tremendous recognitions and goodwill. Later in 1991, she embarked on the  World Tour. Sat is the 12 Lord placed in 12 House giving her outside trips and success.

1992–1994: Marriage to Bobby Brown and Movie- The Bodyguard

She married singer Bobby Brown on July 18, 1992. Dasha running was Ve-Sa-Ve. Venus is a natural significater of marriage. Venus is also conjunct with 7 Lord Sun. Sat is the LL and 12 L of the horoscope. From Ven as the Lagna it is also the 7 Lord.

The horoscope shows major afflictions to 7 House as Sun the 7 L Sun and karak Venus are placed in 6^th House. It is receiving the aspect of Sat the LL and 12 L, Moon the 6 Lord and Jup. In D-9 the lords of 1-7 houses are in exchange showing the deep bonding. The marriage survived 10 years despite major afflictions.

On March 4, 1993, Houston gave birth to their daughter Bobbi Kristina, her only child. The dasha running was Ven-Sat-Sun-Mer-Mer. Ven is the 9 Lord and is aspected by karak for children Jupiter. Sat is the LL and can promise children. Sun is again aspected by Jup and Mer is the 5 Lord.

 Houston’s first film role was in The Bodyguard, released in 1992 and was a huge commercial success. The dasha running was Ven- Sat. Sat as the LL and 12 Lord gave her tremendous success in America and overseas. Ven is the 9 L and Sat the LL and 12 Lord. They are well placed from each other in D1, D9 and D10 and are connected to each other. Saturn in 11 House in D-10 promises commercial success.

The Venus- Sat dasha gave her unprecedented success but also had covert sinister implications. She started taking drugs regularly during this period which caused her eventual downfall. Moon has the aspect of two retrograde planets Jup and Sat and is aspected by Mars. Lagna is aspected by Mercury the 8 Lord. Ven- Sat opposition in 6-12 houses made her impact. Rahu in 5H of emotions can make one try different things especially if personal life is a struggle.

Houston won three Grammys for the album in 1994, and 33 other awards. Following the success of the project, Houston embarked on another global tour in 1993–94. Her concerts, movie, and recording grosses made her the third highest earning female entertainer of 1993–94. The dasha running was Ven – Mercury. Venus is the 11 Lord from MD of Venus. The dasha of Ven and 5 Lord Mer in Kendra gave her tremendous recognition. Ven as 9 Lord and Mer as 5 L are in 2-12 axis from each other giving her gains from abroad. Mer is also the 12 Lord from MD Venus.

1995–1997: More movies and shows

In 1995, Houston starred in her second film  which was no. 1 in US grossing $67 million in the US at the box office and $81 million worldwide, Later that year, Houston’s children’s charity organization was awarded a VH1 Honor for all the charitable work. From 1995-97 she was running the dasha of Venus- Mercury. Mer is the significator for acting (acrobat) and this dasha drew her towards acting and producing  She started doing movies, TV serials which received tremendous success.  Houston also recorded and co-produced the film’s soundtrack.  The album sold six million copies worldwide. In 1997, Houston’s production company made movies for- television Cinderella. In addition to co-producing, Houston starred in the movie. An estimated 60 million viewers tuned into the special giving ABC its highest TV ratings in 16 years. The movie received seven Emmy nominations.

1998–2000: Album

The MD Sun started in Jun 1998. Sun is conjunct with Yogkarak Venus and promises continued success. Houston released her music album after eight years in November 1998. The album was certified 3× platinum in the US, with worldwide sales of 10 million. Dasha running was Sun- Moon. Sun is the 7 Lord of recognition and Moon is the 6 Lord placed with Jupiter. Both are heavily influenced by benefics. From Sun as Lagna, Moon is the LL placed in 9 House with Jup.

2000–2004: Personal struggles

On January 11, 2000, airport security guards discovered marijuana in both Houston’s and husband Bobby Brown’s luggage at a Hawaii airport, but the two boarded the plane and departed before authorities could arrive. Shortly thereafter, Houston was scheduled to perform at the Academy Awards but was fired from the event. Her voice was shaky and she was not interested in performing. Dasha Running was Sun- Rahu. Sun, Rahu are mutual enemiesand are placed in 2-12 from each other. In 2002, Houston became involved in a legal dispute. Dasha running was Sun-Mer. They are again 2-12 from each other and Mer is also the 12 Lord from MD Sun.

 In December 2002, Houston released her fifth studio album, which was certified platinum in the United States, and sold approximately three million worldwide. The dasha running was Sun-Ketu. Ketu is placed in 11 House and its dispositer Jup is aspecting Sun.  The dasha was favorable.

2004 onwards: Divorce and a failed comeback

Her Moon Maha dasha started in June 2004. Moon is the 6 Lord of the horoscope placed in 2 House. After years of controversy and turmoil, Houston separated from Bobby Brown. The divorce was finalized on April 24, 2007, with Houston granted custody of the couple’s daughter. The dasha running was Moon-Rahu-Moon. The 6 Lord Dasha gave her win in court case and the custody of her child. Moon is placed in 2^nd House (8^th from 7^th). From MD Lord Moon as Lagna, Mars is placed in the 7 House and 4^th and 7 Lord Mercury has gone to 6^th House.

Houston released her new album in August 2009 and later embarked on a world tour but her fans were disappointed by the quality of her voice and performance. She was on drugs. The dasha running was Moon- Sat. It gave her recognition but nowhere near her earlier success.

In May 2011, Houston enrolled in a rehabilitation center again, as an out-patient, citing drug and alcohol problems. The dasha running was Moon- Mer. Both the planets can be influenced easily and are not considered stable. Moon is the 6 Lord and Mer the 5 and 8 Lord.

Death

On February 11, 2012, Houston was found dead in a suite at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California, submerged in the bathtub. The cause of death is not immediately known. The dasha running was Moon-Ketu-Moon –Ketu- Mer.

In D1 Moon is the 6 Lord and Ketu is placed in 11 House (6^th from 6). Mercury is the 8 Lord. In the dasha of planets related to 6 and 8 Houses she passed away.

Taking MD Moon as Lagna

LL Jupiter is placed in Lagna with 5 Lord Moon which is a good placement. The Lagna is aspected by malefics Mars and Sat. The 6 Lord Sun and 8 Lord Venus are conjunct in 5 House and are aspecting the 12 Lord Sat. This Sat is in turn aspecting the Lagna turning the venom of 6^th House, 8^th House and 12^th House into Lagna and afflicting it.

The Lagna of D-1 Aquarius has become the 12 House of Maha dasha. Mars placed in the 8 House in D-1 is aspecting the MD Lord Moon.

The 8 Lord Mercury is in Lagna and is aspected by Mars. Maha dasha Lord Moon is placed in the 8 House and is in Pap kartari between two retrograde malefics Mars and Saturn. Yog karak Venus is exalted in the D1 and aspecting Moon but at 10.08 degree it is debilitated in D-9.

Saturn the LL and 12 Lord is exalted and is aspecting Natal dasha lord Moon in 2 House and Ketu the AD Lord in 11 House. It turned retrograde and played the role of 12 Lord of the horoscope.
